Overview:MOL America operates one of the largest and most diverse networks of liner and logistics services around the globe, including weekly Transpacific, Transatlantic, Americas and Asia-Europe services.
The Need:The company needed to upgrade and expand their Citrix Server Farm to a more current version of the Presentation Server platform. Along with the upgrade, approximately 700 users will be added to the existing farm, which would increase the supported number of Citrix users to 1200. The users access the company’s core business application which is hosted in their primary data center in New Jersey. The users are located in The Americas, Europe, and India.
• Deliver a compete life cycle project to upgrade their Citrix Presentation Server infrastructure
• Migrate from Citrix MetaFrame XP to Presentation Server 4.0
• Migrate from Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003
• Overhaul server hardware and move to a Blade Server based architecture
• Designed the new Citrix Presentation Server Architecture
• Deployed an HP Blade P Series Server infrastructure
• Developed automated server build process utilizing HP’s Rapid Deployment software
• Deployed Windows Server 2003 with Terminal Services
• Installed Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 and tuned servers for optimum performance
• Created server imaging process using Altiris/RDP for large scale Blade Server deployment
• Deployed Citrix Web Interface to provide Citrix ICA access via a web browser
• Performed production rollout on time, on budget and without any problems
• Created detailed project documentation and appropriate support procedures
The Result:The firm is now supporting over 1200 concurrent connections to their Citrix Server farm, which includes over 700 users in Europe and India. The new server environment is performing almost 50% faster than the previous version and the Blade infrastructure allows for increased uptime and quick server replacements as needed.
Square One was able to complete the project on-time and within the original budget for the project. Square One also assisted the customer with hiring a new Citrix administrator to provide overnight support for their European user base and to monitor the Citrix server farm during his shift.
